This week´s most popular headlines.
Robin goes into the field with Haroldo.
¨The newbie¨ hopped a chicken bus into a small town about 30 mins from Antigua. Miss L. reports it was the highlight of her week, except for learning that her boyfriend is coming to visit her June 10th.
Thursday May 1st is a national holiday.
The date is celebrated every year as ¨El Día del Trabajador,¨ or the Day of the Worker. Most people get the day off.
Prensa Libre, the most popular newspaper, reports the average Guatemalan worker earns between $5 and $10 day. Unemployment, and food prices, are rising.
Please note: Robin first got this number terribly wrong--the currency conversion still confuses her!
Robin swears that if one more little man says, ¨Ay, mamacita!¨ to her as she walks by...
she´s not going to finish that sentence.
Robin checks out a room whose rent is obscenely low: $150/month.
Um, yeah. Let´s just say her gut reaction is, ¨Oh HELL no. Get your bottom OUT of here.¨
The gringa is going to climb an active volcano on Sunday.
It´s called Pacaya. It only costs $10! There are many climb-able volcanoes in Guatemala. How fun is that?
